Design of Tall Buildings

This course is aimed at providing the students with advanced knowledge on selected topics related to Tall Buildings. In analysis and design of tall buildings, some aspects of modeling techniques, analysis procedures and design process are common; there are several special considerations and knowledge areas needed for each type of structure. This course integrates the analysis and design knowledge of structural systems of tall buildings as well as the design of key components. Special emphasis is given to system selection, analysis, design and detailing for wind and seismic loads, nonlinear and dynamic analysis procedures and performance based design concepts. In addition, students will be given proper training for effective use of appropriate finite element based software and interpretation of output. These topics are considered be useful for those who want to pursue their careers as professional engineers in design of high-rise buildings.
